X-Men ’97 Cast: Who’s Who In Season 1, Episode 3, From Madelyne Pryor To Mr. Sinister?

Goblin Queen aka Madelyne Pryor X-Men 97

After the biggest debut for an animated series on Disney+ since What If…? premiered in 2021, Marvel Studios’s X-Men ’97 is keeping the mutant train chugging along with Season 1, Episode 3 “Fire Made Flesh.” And in the episode, we’re getting a ton of new mutants in the X-Men ’97 cast, as well as a few new villains as well.

Spoilers past this point, but after the shocking cliffhanger in Episode 2 that revealed a second Jean Grey, we find out just what is up with these two telekinetic redheads. Turns out, the one we’ve been hanging out with, who gave birth to Nathan Charles Christopher Summers, is a clone created by the evil Mr. Sinister. The goal? Create the perfect mutant by breeding Jean and Cyclops, then infect the baby with a techno-organic virus, then… Money? Unclear what the actual end goal is here, but it does give us a wild riff on the classic X-Men crossover Inferno.

That’s because thanks to Mr. Sinister’s possession, Clone Jean turns herself into the evil Goblin Queen and manipulates reality to make it look like there’s hell on Earth. Ultimately the real Jean makes her remember who she is, they beat Mr. Sinister, Nathan is taken to the future to meet an older version of himself named Cable (future spoilers, I guess?) and Clone Jean randomly decides her name is now Madelyne Pryor.

That’s the recap; let’s jump into the voice cast. We’ve already covered the majority of the cast changes in our breakdown of the X-Men ’97 Episode 1 voice cast and the X-Men ’97 Episode 2 voice cast. But with a bunch of new voices, there’s plenty to talk about.

X-Men ’97 Season 1, Episode 3 “Fire Made Flesh” Cast: Who’s Who In The Cast?

Mr. Sinister X-Men 97

Jennifer Hale pulls triple duty this episode as the voice of Jean Grey, Madelyne Pryor, and The Goblin Queen. Granted they’re all the same person, but she still gives ’em each their own flavor.

The big new addition is Chris Britton as the voice of Mr. Sinister, except he’s not new at all. The Canadian actor previously voiced the bad guy on X-Men: The Animated Series.

As for the rest of the main X-Men, they’re all the same in this episode as they were in previous episodes, with only Ray Chase pulling double duty as Cyclops and Weatherman.

Forge, the mutant who is able to build anything is new to X-Men ’97 this episode and is voiced by veteran actor Gil Birmingham. He’s been in too many projects to count, but most folks know him best as Billy Black from the Twilight movies or as Thomas Rainwater on Yellowstone. The role was previously voiced by Marc Strange on X-Men: TAS, but Strange sadly passed away in 2012 at age 70.

Christine Uhebe is also new to the cast as Nina Da Costa, Roberto‘s mom. Like her character, she is Brazilian in real life and has done a slew of voice acting and face… Acting? I don’t know what you call that, though mostly internationally.

Meanwhile, Courtenay Taylor gets a big step up from the previous episode where she voiced Callisto, Boy, and Judge, but providing the voice of iconic New Mutant Illyana Rasputin, aka Magik, and her demonic counterpart Darkchylde. This is actually a relatively big deal for fans of the character because she only appeared as the younger version of Illyana on X-Men: TAS, where she was voiced by none other than Tara Strong.

Kimberly Woods takes over the voice role of Bishop’s sister Shard from Kay Tremblay, who passed away at age 91 in 2005.

And finally, in a fun little Easter egg, Asher Lewis and Michelle McMillan, who are both full-time editors (film variety, not book editors) working for Marvel Studios and on X-Men ’97, make cameos as horror movie characters.
