X-Men ’97 Cast: Who’s Who In Season 1, Episode 2, From Magneto To Storm?

Magneto in X-Men 97 Episode 2

Marvel Studios’s X-Men ’97 is on Disney+, with a two-episode premiere. And while it’s going to be a long wait until next week picks up on the cliffhanger of Episode 2, “Mutant Liberation Begins,” we can still kill some of that time perusing the cast list for the series — and figuring out how everyone pulled double (and sometimes triple) duty with the voices.

In case you need a refresher on the episode, and spoilers past this point, Magneto has taken over the X-Men after the apparent death of Professor Xavier. And now it’s time for him to pay the piper, in the form of a tribunal in front of the United Nations, a thing that the United Nations definitely does all the time in real life.

This leads to a riot at the United Nations, an ultimate sacrifice by Storm… And in the middle of all of this, Jean Grey gives birth to little Nathan Christopher Charles Summers, a baby who fans of the X-Men know will grow up to be none other than Cable.

That little recap out of the way, let’s jump into the cast. We’ve already covered the majority of the cast changes in our breakdown of the X-Men ’97 Episode 1 voice cast. But below, let’s discuss what’s new, what’s different, what’s… X-citing.

X-Men ’97 Season 1, Episode 2 “Mutant Liberation Begins” Cast: Who’s Who In The Cast?

As detailed previously, there have been various changes to the cast due to some of the original X-Men: The Animated Series actors sadly passing away. That includes original Magneto voice actor David Hemblen, who died at age 79 in 2020. Matthew Waterson, who previously voiced the character of Rusty on an episode of What If…? has hopped in to portray the master of magnetism for the new series, as well as a security guard in this episode.

Ray Chase and Jennifer Hale also pull double duty as Cyclops and Jean Grey, as well as Russian Judge and Female Firefighter, respectively. Meanwhile, Alison Sealy-Smith, Cal Dodd, Lenore Zann, Catherine Disher, George Buza, and Isaac Robinson-Smith all take it easy with one voice apiece, playing Storm, Wolverine, Rogue, Val Cooper, Beast, and Bishop.

New this episode is Donna Jay Fulks, the voice of Longclaw from the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, as ace reporter Trish Tilby. Also new is veteran voice actor Jeff Bennett as American Judge/Burly Goon, everyone’s two favorite X-Men characters.

We also check in with the Morlocks this episode, mutant outcasts who live in the sewers of New York City. They’re led by Callisto, who was voiced by Susan Roman in the original series, and here by Courtenay Taylor. And John Stocker voiced Leech in the original series; in X-Men ’97 the character is voiced by David Errigo Jr.

Though Jubilee doesn’t get any speaking lines this episode, Holly Chou, who does the voice of the character, still appears — as “Chinese Judge.”
