The Justice League is officially coming back to DC Comics. As announced yesterday (July 25) at San Diego Comic-Con, a new title, Justice League Unlimited, will launch soon from writer Mark Waid and artist Dan Mora.
This isn’t too much of a shocker, as the superteam has been off the board since the end of Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths in December of 2022. It was only a matter of time before the Justice League came back — and now we know thanks to solicit info that it will happen in the October 2 release of Absolute Power #4… Not so coincidentally written by Mark Waid, with art by Dan Mora. The JL will pop up that same day in the highly hyped DC All Special #1, which will spin off into the new status quo of the DC Universe, as well as launching the brand new Absolute Universe.
That’s all well and good, but what about this Justice League Unlimited title? While details are slim, including a debut date for the monthly book — though I’ll take a stab and say November — we do know that the book will reintroduce the Justice League’s orbital Watchtower base. It will also have a rapidly expanding membership that, at least according to the cover for the first issue, may include Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Star Sapphire, Black Lightning, The Flash, and Captain Atom.
Per IGN, this doesn’t seem to be the permanent roster of the team, which will rotate a la the classic animated series of the same name. Or as Dan Mora put it on X (formerly Twitter): “more members to come.”
