Gen V finished up its first season with an exciting – but agonizing – tease. Spoilers past this point, but the Gen V Season 1 finale featured cameos by both Homelander (Antony Starr) and Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) from the mothership show The Boys. And now, thankfully, we know that The Boys Season 4 will premiere in 2024.
No month yet. Or date. Just the year. But thanks to two teaser images released today by Prime Video, we have a sense of what The Boys Season 4 is going to be all about. And given the show loves to riff on the real world, it should have been obvious: election year.
The two teaser posters show off the epically superpowered Homelander, and the Supe-hating Butcher, in two election-themed settings. For Butcher, it’s the night after, with balloons and confetti littered all over the ground as he looks down, seemingly defeated. For Homelander, it’s a confetti-filled celebration, seemingly triumphant. There’s a lot that can be taken from this, given the two images don’t give more context. But given the end of Gen V showed Homelander ascendant, and at the wheel of a burgeoning Supes-rights movement, that definitely needs potentially very, very bad things for the world.
But what does it mean for Vice Presidential candidate Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit), who is now in possession of a Supe-killing virus after the events of Gen V? Is Homelander backing her up, or is he running on his own ticket? And how uncomfortably close to real-life events will The Boys Season 4 get? We’ll have to wait and see, of course, but on the last question, the answer is probably: pretty damn uncomfortable.
