As just revealed at CCXP, the largest comic convention in the world, The Boys Season 4 teaser trailer is here. And if the minute-and-a-half-long look is any indication, Season 4 will ratchet the tension up to nearly unbearable levels. Good thing Jeffrey Dean Morgan is joining the cast to take the piss out of Butcher (Karl Urban).
While we don’t have a premiere date yet other than “coming in 2024,” the teaser trailer does give a good look at some of the insanity coming our way in the new episodes. After the season finale of Gen V, Homelander (Antony Starr) is more powerful than ever, manipulating the media and consolidating his base. Starlight, aka Annie (Erin Moriarty) is using her social media clout as well to try and come up with a better, more positive way of looking at the world. But as she soon discovers, Homelander doesn’t even need to lift a finger to make things spiral out of control.
In a speech that seems to potentially be cobbled together from multiple scenes, a character I’m pretty sure is new cast member Sister Sage (Susan Heyward) explains how democracies fall.
“Rome. Greece. All democracies fail,” she says. “Because people are f**king stupid. But if you crush the masses, who builds your monuments? Who tongues your taint? Nah, the people will tear apart themselves. You just gotta nudge ’em a little. Then you get to swoop in. Be the one saving it.”
That’s when a male voice who might be Homelander says, “Like Caeser.” To which she answers, “Like Caeser.”
Meet The Boys Season 4’s New Characters
Then we get flashes of several quick scenes, including a rally where Homelander is backed up by his son, Ryan (Cameron Crovetti), and Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell), even though the latter gruesomely died in The Boys season 3 finale. Also at the rally? Firecracker (Valorie Curry), who is endorned in bullets and hosts a show called The Truthbomb with Firecracker. We also see a horrifying child Supe with snake things popping out of her mouth and attacking Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara). The Deep (Chace Crawford) and A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) reunited with Black Noir. Something crawling through Butcher’s brain. Ashley (Colby Minifie) asking “Who wants their balls crushed,” to which Cameron Coleman (Matthew Edison) says “me.” A-Train looking at hair in a jar.
And most importantly? Frequent Eric Kripke collaborator Jeffrey Dean Morgan shows up in a mystery role (though real ones will know he’s playing Joe Kessler). “You’re team, what’s their codename again?” he asks his friend Billy Butcher. “The Boys,” answers Butcher. “Oof,” says Morgan. “Who came up with that s**t?”
You can watch the trailer below, and speculate about just how uncomfortable this election-themed season will get.
The Boys Season 4 Synopsis:
In Season Four, the world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power. Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son as well as his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late.
