He’s back, baby! Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles), the big villain of The Boys Season 3, officially returns to our screens in Gen V Episode 6, “Jumanji.” But how is the character back after he was put on ice in The Boys Season 3 finale???
To take a big step back, television is a medium that broadcasts short-form stories into — oh, sorry, too big of a step. Smaller step: in the third season of Amazon Prime Video‘s The Boys, we met Soldier Boy, one of the original superheroes in the world of the series. Think “jerk Captain America” and you have the general idea. Played by Supernatural‘s Jensen Ackles, there were a number of huge revelations from his presence on the show, not least of which is that he is Homelander’s (Antony Starr) father.
In the season finale, pretty much everyone teamed up to fight Soldier Boy, who had been altered with the power to explode — essentially a Supe dirty bomb — and stop him from blowing up Vought Tower. They did stop him, and Soldier Boy was once again put into cryogenic sleep by the US government.
…So why is he at Godolkin University in next week’s episode, as teased in the Episode 6 promo? We know that Gen V takes place after Season 3 of The Boys since the students visited the mostly wrecked Vought Tower in the season premiere, “God U.” So either Soldier Boy has been unfrozen, which is bad news for everyone. Or there’s something else going on.
How Is Soldier Boy Back? Gen V‘s Episode 6 Promo May Hold Clues
The biggest indicator that things aren’t what they seem? The rest of the promo for “Jumanji.” Spoilers past this point. In Episode 5, “Welcome to the Monster Club,” we discovered that Cate (Maddie Phillips) has been manipulating everyone’s memories. In the promo for the next episode, things get downright trippy, with moaning puppets, a brick doorway breaking apart piece by piece like it’s a reject from a Doctor Strange movie, and even some shots of the kids in The Woods.
That’s the biggest indicator of something weird here. The Woods is the central, mysterious facility on Gen V. And where is Soldier Boy? In lowercase the woods. So perhaps there’s a connection between the two? Or maybe it’s just nice to see Jensen Ackles on our TV screens again, and we shouldn’t overthink it.
Either way, this is bad news for our burgeoning team of Godolkin University Supes.
