Is A Young Avengers Movie In Development At Marvel Studios?

Young Avengers

Look, let’s get this out of the way up front: Marvel Studios has been building up to something with the Young Avengers for years now. They’ve introduced multiple characters from the comic book lineup and even teased a teen team forming at the end of The Marvels. But is a Young Avengers movie in active development?

That bit of news comes from the latest issue of Production Weekly, which lists a Young Avengers feature film as in “active development.” The outlet also lists Kevin Feige and Louis D’Esposito as producers. And the Production Coordinator for Marvel is indeed the point of contact. It also provides a generic blurb taken from the comics, and notes that production is planned to start in 2025.

However, it’s important to note that Production Weekly does not vet its sources. In the same issue it lists Star Wars: Episode X – A New Beginning as the title of the upcoming Rey (Daisy Ridley) focused movie… When that title was debunked by Lucasfilm in mere hours. Its working title, which is noted by PW, is The New Jedi Order.

Furthermore, this listing may have a clear source… A popular “scooper” online dropped some info, including that Marvel was in development on a Young Avengers feature film, not a Disney+ series.

Everything points to this not being actual news from Marvel Studios, so much as scuttlebutt that doesn’t have basis in fact.

…But What If Marvel Studios Is Prepping A Young Avengers Movie?

…Except it makes sense that Disney would want to push ahead with a Young Avengers movie, right? They clearly want something with “Avengers” in the title, and quickly, to start getting butts back in the seats for Marvel movies. They’ve also got a cast of stars people really like. Even with The Marvels severely underperforming, it was universally agreed that Iman Vellani was a stand-out as Ms. Marvel/Kamala Khan. The end credits scene where she recruits Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop, and teases tracking down Kathryn Newton’s Cassie Lang/Stature, was thrilling.

Marvel is about to introduce a grown-up Billy Maximoff, aka Wiccan, with another popular actor, Joe Locke, later this year in Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. And they’ve got Dancing With The Stars winner Xochitl Gomez tearing up TikTok, just waiting for her chance to play America Chavez again.

And that’s not even half the potential roster of a movie like this. They’ve introduced a ton more potential Young Avengers characters, whether they match the roster from the comic books or not.

That gets us to what “active development” means. Active development usually means someone is working on script ideas, there’s a director attached, or some other creative. It is likely that Marvel Studios is actively pursuing several options like Young Avengers for future feature films. Particularly with one that thus far has had a clear setup like Young Avengers, it just makes sense that it would be in active development.

To take it one step further, what if Marvel is prepping it for production in 2025? And Avengers: Kang Dynasty, which reportedly no longer has that name, is being switched out for Young Avengers… Something that thus far only has good will and excitement behind it?

Regardless, they might want to get moving. Those Young Avengers aren’t getting any younger.
