Wolverine: Madripoor Knights #1 Review:

In this throwback comic, we’re picking up right after the classic Wolverine/Captain America/Black Widow adventure from decades ago… And then doing it again.

“This is a really fantastic issue,” said host Pete LePage. “It felt old school, [and] it had such cool art.”

“This is nostalgia to the tee,” added Justin Tyler, noting that the thing that was most exciting to him was thought balloons. “I loved the thought balloons. And it reminded me, so much of comics when I first started reading for years was everyone was thinking stuff… and now we just don’t do that… There is an intimacy that we get from all the characters here where we get to hear Captain America be like Wolverine’s a little out of control… That is enriching to the story. And it’s something we don’t get in so much storytelling now and I do miss it. So this book hit a sweet spot for me.”

As for Alex Zalben, he was happy to see a happy, non-complicated Jubilee. And furthermore, seeing Wolverine “in a place where he’s like, ‘Oh my god, I can’t stop bleeding,’ is much more satisfying to read him as a character, having limitations… So I enjoyed this so much more than I thought I would. It’s definitely a [calculated] play like a lot of these books are but if you are [in the tank] for that era, I think it would work for you.”
