Yesterday (December 17) we reported about how Marvel had nabbed a bunch of Emmy Awards for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, and I Am Groot. Well, guess what? Two of those three have won even more Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Fiction Special, and Outstanding Animated Special.
Specifically, Moon Girl took home two Emmys on the second night of the 2nd Annual Children’s & Family Emmy Awards. The first? Outstanding Animated Special for “Moon Girl Landing,” the pilot of the series. The second? Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation for Color Script Artist/Background Paint Lead Kaz Aiwaza.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, meanwhile, took home the award for Outstanding Fiction Special.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special originally aired on Disney+ in 2022, and served as a bridge between the events of Avengers: Endgame, and Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3. In it, Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) is bummed out by… You know, everything. So Drax (Dave Bautista) and Mantis (Pom Klementieff) decide to bring him the best Christmas present in the world: Kevin Bacon.
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, meanwhile, aired its first season on Disney Channel and is currently streaming on Disney+. The non-MCU series focuses on the super-smart Lunella Lafayette (Diamond White), aka Moon Girl, her pet dinosaur, and the adventures they go on together. The second season of the series is scheduled to premiere on Disney Channel on February 2, 2024.
This brings Moon Girl and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special up to four Emmys each. Not too shabby! Still outstanding for Marvel are nominations for Ms. Marvel, which will be announced as part of the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards on January 6 and 7, 2024. Those nominations are: Outstanding Picture Editing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie; Outstanding Music Composition for a Limited of Anthology Series, Movie or Special; and Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music.
