This is Comic Book Club News for December 18, 2023.

DC Comics March 2024 Solicitations Highlights:

2023 may be wrapping up, but it’s already March of 2024 as far as DC Comics is concerned. The publisher has released its solicitations for the upcoming month, aka the text sent to retailers to sell them on purchasing and selling their books. And in a shocking turn of events, some of the big highlights include the DC character known as “Batman.”

First up, in Batman #145, the title picks up after the Joker: Year One storyline with Batman in prison and fighting for his life against the Batman of Zur-en-arrh. The solicit text teases, “but what dark secret does Zur now hold that’s a game changer for the Dark Knight and the entire DC Universe?!” Seems important!

Speaking of important, as previously reported by Comic Book Club News, March will see the release of Suicide Squad: Dream Team by Nicole Maines. Bringing the character Dreamer to the forefront of a new team, DC is once again laying on the teasing. Says DC, this title is “the next big step toward the cataclysmic event of 2024!” With Amanda Waller behind pretty much every bit of machination in the DC Universe, will this reveal what her overall plot is? Or is there more to come?

But perhaps most exciting of all is a non-continuity title. Batman: Dark Age reteams Mark Russell and Mike Allred from the excellent Superman: Space Age to tell a tale of Batman set against the backdrop of real historical events. While Space Age also retold the origin of Batman, this looks to be set in its own continuity, rather than a continuation of the previous series. Sounds great!

Meanwhile, over in Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #25, Mark Waid and Dan Mora will tell a story of the first meeting between The Joker and Lex Luthor. Wonder Woman #7 also takes a break from the action as Diana leaves Earth with Superman to go buy Batman a birthday present. Birds of Prey #7 kicks the title into its second arc, with Batgirl rejoining the team, and new artist Leonardo Fernandez. Alan Scott: The Green Lantern #6 brings the reinvention of Alan Scott’s origin through the lens of his LGBTQ+ identity to a close.

There’s plenty more to check out from DC Comics in March, though! And you can go do that yourself. I just gave you, like, seven different books to check out. Jeez Louise.

For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. And I’m not usually a betting man, but I think this Batman guy is gonna be big.
