To misquote Nicolas Cage in National Treasure 2: what is it about new comics this week that makes history so exciting? And believe me, history is being made this week, because for the first time ever: actually, honestly not sure about this one.
That said, there are plenty of new comics. Marvel is coming in strong with Torunn Grønbekk’s Carnage #1, which is so extreme that when we interviewed her at Baltimore Comic Con she couldn’t stop giggling about it. They’ve also got the official return of the evil Spidey in The Superior Spider-Man #1, so bring on the bad guys.
DC Comics has two number one issues courtesy of the Dawn of DC initiative. The first is Speed Force #1, a new team book focusing on non-The Flash speedsters. Then there’s Outsiders #1, which sounds like a big swing as Batwoman and Luke Fox explore the secrets of the multiverse, from Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing.
Elsewhere, you’re probably going to want to pick up BOOM! Studios Animal Pound #1 Ashcan, which gives a preview of Tom King and Peter Gross’s twisted new take on Animal Farm. Dark Horse has Operation Sunshine #2, the second issue in the laugh-out-loud funny vampire heist series. And IDW has the absolutely wild sci-fi actioner The Ministry of Compliance #1, from John Ridley. Oh, and do not miss Image Comics The Deviant #1, a dark Christmas tale from James Tynion IV.
