Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, the anime-inspired take on Bryan Lee O’Malley‘s classic comic book series, is almost here. And in advance of the November 17 premiere date on Netflix, the streamer has officially released the Scott Pilgrim Takes Off opening credits.
The credits feature custom animation from Science SARU, and the official theme song “bloom” by Japanese rock band Necry Talkie.
At the show’s New York Comic Con panel, showrunners O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski showed off the credits for the packed crowd at the Javits Center (of which Comic Book Club was in attendance). They noted that they had sent a number of ideas for anime-inspired credits to Science SARU… Only for the studio to ignore them all, and send something instead that both creators thought was a million times better.
The series reimagines both O’Malley’s six-volume Scott Pilgrim series of graphic novels, as well as Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, the movie adaptation of the books. In fact, in a wild twist, the anime series has the look of the books, but the entire live-action movie cast reprising their roles in animation.
You can check out the Scott Pilgrim Takes Off opening credits below, and just try to get the tune out of your head over the next few weeks.
