If you thought The Voice of Rao (Blake Ritson) on SYFY’s Krypton wasn’t great before he was infected by a Brainiac probe, get ready for Voice of Rao 2.0. Spoilers for last night’s episode “Civil Wars” past this point, but in the next episode, “Transformation,” The Voice has been officially revealed — and is ready to take over Kandor.
(Also there was this whole thing about Doomsday last night you should definitely check out.)
Also revealed? Daron-Vex’s aborted plan to murder The Voice of Rao, and take back Kandor for the people. In a sneak peek clip at “Transformation,” we get to see the aftermath of this attempt. Specifically, the now maskless Voice of Rao (Voice of Brainiac?) carefully prods at Daron-Vex, discovering who was involved in the insurrection.
We’ve talked a lot on our Krypton podcast about how Daron-Vex isn’t the Littlefinger-esque mastermind he seems to be, and this scene underscores that. He’s not just giving up everyone from Jayna-Zod (Ann Ogbomo) to Dev-Em (Aaron Pierre). He also gives up his own daughter, Nyssa-Vex (Wallis Day).
Chances are he already has a plan to wiggle out of this, because we don’t see Nyssa leaving the cast any time soon. But he’s going to have a hard time out-thinking an alien computer.
Also interesting, we find out more about what went on before the first episode of Krypton. Specifically that The Voice of Rao purged non-believers from Kandor, including Daron’s parents. Before Brainiac, I was ready to believe that maybe the sun god’s religion wasn’t so bad. Now? Not so sure.
