‘The Boys’ Season 4 Trailer Brings On Bulletproof Chickens, Flying Bears, Oh My

The Boys Season 4 trailer

The full trailer for The Boys Season 4 is finally here, thanks to a surprise drop at CCXP México. And there are far more bulletproof chickens and flying bears than, I think, anyone was expecting. On the other hand, that thing you thought was going to carry over from the spinoff series Gen V? Yep, it’s happening.

In the trailer, we get to see Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) telling Hughie (Jack Quaid), Annie (Erin Moriarty), a nearly unrecognizable Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tomer Capone), and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) that he only has a few months to live. And since he does, he’s gonna take the whole superhero population with him. His plan? Use the Supe virus he obtained from the wreckage of The Woods over on Gen V to absolutely destroy them. Not only that, Maddie Phillips and Asa Germann make a brief appearance as their characters from that series, Cate and Sam, respectively.

And the Supe virus couldn’t have come at a better time, as the gloves are off when it comes to Homelander (Antony Starr). He’s decided that his team is no longer celebrities — they’re gods. And as gods, that means The Deep (Chace Crawford), A-Train (Jessie T. Usher), and new members Sister Sage (Susan Heyward) and Firecracker (Valorie Curry) are going to do whatever they want, whenever they want.

Oh, and at some point The Boys visit a farm full of bulletproof chickens, flying bears, and more. Perhaps the place where evil corporation Vought does animal testing for Compound V, their Supe-creating formula? Just a theory.

What the trailer does not lean into in between all the bloody shenanigans is the election year trappings of the season, as Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) aims to take over the White House, with Homelander (sort of) on her side. There are definitely intimations of the us versus them mentality — Jeffrey Dean Morgan‘s Joe Kessler notes that the supes are going to “start rounding us up and dumping us in camps” — and we see protests against and for Homelander happening. But the never-shy about modern politics The Boys will probably lean into this way more than this trailer is letting on.

Also starring in this season are Colby Minifie (yet another great “Ashley” joke is dropped in the trailer), and Cameron Crovetti, who is really hitting his growth spurt so they better start filming the yet-to-be-announced Season 5 ASAP.
