No, ‘The Boys’ Didn’t Recast Mother’s Milk – Laz Alonso Shaved His Face

Laz Alonso Mother's Milk The Boys weight loss shaved face

If you checked out the Season 4 trailer for The Boys, you might have been wondering about one specific actor. Laz Alonso has been playing Mother’s Milk since the first season but is nearly unrecognizable in the trailer. So did The Boys recast the role? Is the OG Mother’s Milk gone??? The answer is no, Laz Alonso is still playing Mother’s Milk in The Boys Season 4… But he did shave his face.

Okay, fine, Alonso has clearly lost some weight, too. Meaning between the thinner build and soul patch instead of a full beard, he looks virtually unrecognizable. But yes, that is Laz Alonso in the role of MM.

In fact, Alonso has been pretty open about working on his build for years now. Back in 2017, pre-The Boys, on Facebook the actor posted about aiming to get his “20s waist back.” He joked about it in 2018, posting himself standing on two scales and promising he was going to do a “caloric deficit” in January.

Going all the way back to 2014, Alonso discussed his fitness regimen with BET, noting that he aimed to bulk up after high school. “I got serious about [fitness] in high school. All my buddies were big, and I was a 155-pound rail,” said Alonso. “It was a crash course of ‘I want to keep up with these guys.’ ”

Look, do I feel viscerally uncomfortable talking about someone’s weight and fitness regimen? Yes. But also the point here is that it’s clear body image is something that has been on Alonso’s mind for a while, and for whatever reason he’s taken to losing some weight for this new season, that is his own. Yes, he has a different body type. But that’s his choice and here’s hoping along with whatever trainers he’s working with, it’s a healthy one.

Frankly, though, the much more dramatic change is the shaving, which changes the seeming shape of his face completely. The sharp, well-trimmed beard Mother’s Milk sports in the comic book and in the first three seasons of the show is vastly different than the soul patch he’s rocking in Season 4. So yes, Mother’s Milk looks different, but he’s still the same guy — and played by the same guy you’ve loved in Seasons 1 through 3.

  1. bro that does not look like a healthy weight loss, why are you fucking journalists so afraid to write the truth about anything?

  2. I think he’s using crack, there’s no way someone could look so different on healthy diet after a year, and he doesn’t look healthy at all, probably drugs

    1. Why on earth would you feel “viscerally uncomfortable talking about someone’s weight and fitness regimen”?

    2. You must be white… Was Chadwick Boseman on crack? You people never stop and then claim Black people keep division going in this country.

      1. Because every accusation aimed at a black person can only be by a racist white man.
FFS. You lot or disgusting with your self-victimization.

  3. He looked beefy and strong, not fat. Who on earth would want to loose muscle mass? Plus his face shriveled, it’s not just the lack of beard.
