Blood Hunt Red Band Edition Sees Blade Cut Doctor Strange In Half:

As we’ve discussed several times here on the podcast, Marvel is releasing Red Band editions of Blood Hunt, their vampire-infused crossover. Marvel teased that with six extra adults-only pages, the Red Band books would — pun intended — flesh out the regular story. Only a comparison between the regular and Red Band editions shows a different end entirely.

Popverse did the hard work here breaking down the extra pages, and where Pepe Larraz’s art got more gruesome. However, it’s the last page that concerns us, and spoilers past this point. In the final page of the issue, it’s revealed that Blade is behind the vampire attack on the world, and he impales Doctor Strange from behind, right through his sternum. Pretty bad, but heroes have recovered from worse.

In the Red Band edition, it gets worse. Blade doesn’t stab a surprised Doctor Strange — he slices him in half, intestines hanging out and all. That seems harder to recover from, though I’m not doctor, strange or otherwise.

So how will Blood Hunt #2 — and upcoming tie-in issues of Doctor Strange reconcile these two events? I’ll take a stab and say we’ll all be split on the results.

André Lima Araújo To Guest Pencil Arc Of The Sacrificers:

If you’ve been enjoying Ricke Remender and Max Fiumara’s dark fantasy Image Comics book The Sacrificers, get ready to continue to enjoy it, but with a new look. André Lima Araújo will be taking over art duties for a three-issue arc.

Said Remender via press release provided to Comic Book Club: “André is one of the greatest talents in comics today and one of those rare people who is not only an incredibly talented and exciting illustrator, but a wonderful storyteller, and a machine that never misses a schedule. On top of that, he’s a sweet guy and a lot of fun to work with. We’re really lucky to have him come join us on this and become part of this strange little family we’ve been building.”

Araújo will take over for issues #10-12 of the title, starting in July.

Pete Wentz and Hannah Klein’s Graphic Novel Launches Merch Line:

Vault Comics is all in on Dying Inside, the upcoming graphic novel from Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz and Everything’s Fine writer Hannah Klein. Not only have they announced in advance of the Free Comic Book Day preview of the graphic novel that they’re releasing a deluxe edition, but there will also be a line of merchandise to support the book.

Said Wentz: “So psyched to be releasing Dying Inside. Hannah is one of my favorite contemporary writers, kind of if Larry David and Elliott Smith had a kid, and Lisa‘s an excellent addition to help bring this to life with her artistry. Can’t wait for it to be out in the world.”

The book focuses on a 16-year-old girl named Ash who tries to off herself, only to discover the knife she’s using has been cursed by a witch, and now she’s immortal. The book won’t hit until September, but the merch from Skullcandy can be purchased online right now.

For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. And maybe Marvel could start releasing two Doctor Strange comics, one for his top half, and one for his bottom half.
