This is Comic Book Club News for March 13, 2024.

Dog Man Books Distributed Free In All 50 States By Little Free Libraries:

Dav Pilkey’s all-ages series of graphic novels Dog Man is an enormous hit. With spinoffs, a live musical, and more, Dog Man is a hugely profitable enterprise for publisher Scholastic. Only now, they’re giving away the newest book, The Scarlet Shedder, for free.

As reported by The Beat, Scholastic and Little Free Libraries are teaming up for pop-up boxes in all 50 United States. Those boxes will offer free copies of Scarlet Shedder, as well as other Dav Pilkey and Scholastic books, in a take one, leave one type situation.

The first box will be unveiled next week in Cleveland, the birthplace of Pilkey, on March 19. Additional cities include Washington DC, New York City, Atlanta, Baltimore, Detroit, Houston, New Orleans, Phoenix, Portland, Madison, and San Francisco, with more to be announced. And the boxes are easily identifiable in red — excuse me, scarlet — as well as featuring Dog Man characters, and those from Pilkey’s other hit series, Captain Underpants.

And in fact, the sponsor behind this effort? Pilkey himself.

The Scarlet Shedder hits stores on March 19, the same day the first box pops up in Cleveland.

Oni Press Cult of the Lamb Kickstarter Blasts Past Goal:

Cult of the Lamb is a hit indie game from Devolver Digital. And now it’s also a graphic novel from Oni Press titled Cult of the Lamb: The First Verse. Double and, it’s now also a highly successful Kickstarter, having blown past its $10,000 goal in record time.

In fact, as of this recording, the Kickstarter now stands at well over $180,000, and just keeps ticking upwards. The comic book adaptation is written by Alex Paknadel, with art by Troy Little. Pledge levels range from $10 for the digital edition, to $2000 for a hardcover set featuring a slew of extras, limited to 10 backers.

Said Oni Press President & Publisher Hunter Gorinson via press release: “CULT OF THE LAMB is one of the most creatively energizing concepts to emerge from the world of video games in recent years – thanks in all arenas to the hard work and exceptional vision of Devolver Digital. It’s little surprise that CULT OF THE LAMB has found many millions of ardent followers around the globe, and both Oni Press and our creators are committed to serving Lamb’s dark justice with a graphic novel extrapolation that will both enrapture longtime fans and introduce a new legion of readers to this darkly hilarious and compellingly entertaining world.”

You can join the cult over at Kickstarter until Thursday, April 11 2024 at 11:59 PM ET.

Deadpool Is Getting A Role Playing Game From Marvel:

Deadpool is getting his own RPG! And we don’t mean rocket powered grenade, though probably that, too. The new role playing game is titled Deadpool Role-Plays The Mavel Universe, and is written by Cullen Bunn, with art by Mike Shelfer.

In a unique bit of synergy, the new one-shot combines a new story starring Deadpool with the Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game, which premiered last year to critical acclaim.

In the volume, you can expect a comic lead-in story, as well as a standalone RPG adventure, character profiles, and the chance to play as Deadpool and his team, or use your own characters.

It will hit stores on July 17.

For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. And the only cult of the lamb I’m joining is for this delicious gyro I’m eating right now. Yum.
