Top 11 DC Comics For March 2024

Best DC Comics March 2024

DC Comics isn’t monkeying around with their big comic book releases for March, 2024. Or rather: they are, thanks to the release of another pun-focused anthology, DC’s Ape-ril Special.

There are plenty of non-monkey titles, though most of them are Batman-focused. You’ve got out-of-continuity Batman stories. You’ve got in-continuity Batman stories. You’ve even got a little Batman, literally. What more could you want?

How about some big things in the world of Superman, a Wonder Woman throwback tale from Guillem March because it’s March, and Nicole Maines elevating Dreamer to a whole new level? These are the 11 must-buy, must-have DC comics to complete your haul this month.

1. Kneel Before Zod #3

Kneel Before Zod #3 cover

Release Date: March 5, 2024

This title has been a slow burn, but it sounds like issue #3 is where the explosion happens. While we won’t repeats any rumored spoilers here, suffice to say this is potentially a game-changer that will lead to big, bad things down that road for the Superman side of DC’s universe.

2. Birds of Prey #7

Birds of Prey #7 cover

Release Date: March 5, 2024

The stand-out title from writer Kelly Thompson kicks into its second arc with artist Javier Pina in tow. The new team has a new mission: save Batgirl. Great! Sign me up.

3. The Bat-Man: First Knight #1

the bat man first knight #1 cover

Release Date: March 5, 2024

This new Black Label title comes from Dan Jurgens and Mike Perkins, and throws it back to Batman’s early days as a crime fight when his ears were larger. While other Black Label books have stayed in the modern era, it will be interesting to see what Jurgens and Perkins (my favorite shampoo brand) have cooked up here.

4. Suicide Squad: Dream Team #1

Suicide Squad: Dream Team #1 cover

Release Date: March 12, 2024

Nicole Maines steps up to her first multi-issue arc on Dreamer as the hero leads the new Suicide Squad. Not only is this a big move for Maines (and Dreamer), but it will seemingly set up a lot of what’s coming down the road with Amanda Waller over the next few months.

5. Fables #162

Fables #162 cover

Release Date: March 12, 2024

This is the final issue of Fables, probably forever due to behind-the-scenes shenanigans between written Bill Willingham and DC Comics. It’s possible it could continue with a new writer, or just under artist Mark Buckingham. But as is, let us treasure out final look at Bigby Wolf and his clan. Until the next time.

6. Batman/Dylan Dog #1

Batman Dylan Dog #1 cover

Release Date: March 12, 2024

I’m really showing my ignorance here, but it turns out Dylan Dog is not a talking dog, but rather a guy playing the clarinet. Anyway, I have no idea what to expect from this mash-up of Italian investigator and Dark Knight, but that’s the way I like it. Surprise me!

7. Batman and Robin and Howard #1

Batman and Robin and Howard #1 cover

Release Date: March 12, 2024

This is actually a reprint of the book by Jeffrey Brown, now split up into three single issues. DC is doing the same thing with their stealth hit Primer this month, and if you’ve never checked out either all-ages series is a great way of getting your kids hooked on the good stuff. Comics, I mean.

8. Wonder Woman #7

wonder woman #7 cover

Release Date: March 19, 2024

Last issue we finally got some big action with Diana taking on her greatest enemies… And losing. So you know what it’s time for: a break! In this issue we flash back to the time Wonder Woman and Superman got Batman a birthday present in space. Tom King teams up with artist Guillem March for this one, which is appropriate, because it’s coming out in March.

9. DC’s Ape-ril Special #1

DC's Ape-ril Special #1 cover

Release Date: March 19, 2024

Can we please give whoever is naming these DC specials an Eisner or something?

10. The Penguin #8

The Penguin #8 cover

Release Date: March 26, 2024

Tom King does love a break in his comics, but here that break is over… Penguin is ready to make his move to take back the Gotham City underworld from his errant children, and it’s bound to get bloody.

11. Batman: Dark Age #1

Batman: Dark Age #1 cover

Release Date: March 26, 2024

Following up on Superman: Space Age, Mark Russell, and Michael Allred reunite for a similar revisionist historical view of Batman.
