Superman Legacy Begins Filming March 18

It’s been a long time coming, but we now know when cameras officially begin rolling on Superman Legacy, aka the official live-action kick-off of James Gunn‘s new DCU: March 18, 2024.

The news comes via the most recent issue of Production Weekly. They have Superman Legacy kicking off filming on March 18. Production according to them is scheduled to wrap up on August 2. Filming locations listed include Atlanta, Georgia, and Cleveland and Cincinnati, Ohio. The latter is particularly sweet because Cleveland is considered the birthplace of Superman… And the Hall of Justice is based on Cincinnati’s Union Terminal.

A slight grain of salt on this: production schedules are always changing. And Production Weekly does not vet all its info, so some of this may or may not be correct. But we do know that the table read for the Superman reboot has already happened. Sets are being built in Atlanta. And mid-March was already targeted as the start date. So while this could shift or not be accurate, it certainly seems on track with everything we already know about the production schedule of the movie.

This also tracks with the production and post-production schedule of an effects-heavy movie like Superman Legacy. Four and a half months of production, followed by about 11 months of post-production that most likely will include reshoots and fixes — the movie is scheduled to be released on July 11, 2025 — is a perfect amount of time for this sort of thing. As usual, it seems like this James Gunn guy knows what he’s doing.

Superman Legacy is written and directed by James Gunn. It stars David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Tesmacher, Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason/Metamorpho, Isabel Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer.
