The Deadpool 3 aka trailer is here, thanks to the just-dropped commercial in the Super Bowl. And we now know the movie is titled Deadpool & Wolverine. But who plays Wolverine in Deadpool 3?
It’s a fair question, particularly if you haven’t avidly been following the press and promotion thus far, or seen leaked photos from the set. While hardcore Marvel and comic book fans may be aware, for the casual fan (aka the ones just finding out about this from the Super Bowl) it might be a bit more of a mystery. So who is playing Wolverine in Deadpool 3? Read on for the pretty obvious answer.
Who is playing Wolverine in Deadpool 3?
It’s Hugh Jackman! Hugh Jackman is back as Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine. He reprises the role after playing it in multiple movies including X-Men, X2: X-Men United, X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Wolverine, Logan, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and briefly in X-Men: First Class.
While Jackman had said he was retiring from the role after Logan, he’s back, baby! That said, this is most likely a very different Wolverine from a different part of the multiverse, given the movie is playing around with the Time Variance Authority (TVA) from Loki.
You get to almost see Jackman twice in the trailer. In the first look, Deadpool is walking through a club of some sort, and sees a man with Wolverine’s distinctive hairline in a white suit sitting with his back to him (Jackman’s back, if you will). This is particularly exciting for comic book fans because this is most likely the Patch identity of Wolverine, where he dresses in a white suit, wears an eye patch, and acts like a spy in the deadly, crime-ridden city-island of Madripoor.
The second glimpse is at the very end of the trailer when Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) is on the ground and asks for help standing up. That’s when we see in silhouette Wolverine’s distinctive claws, and while Deadpool says he’s just fine, Wolverine reaches down to stab him/help him up. You also get a glimpse of another exciting thing for fans: Wolverine’s blue and yellow costume from the comics and X-Men: The Animated Series:
So there you go! While they’re presumably saving a face reveal for a later trailer, that’s definitely Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine. It’s also Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool. FYI.
Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters on July 26, 2024.
