Is Loki In Deadpool 3?

Is Loki in Deadpool 3?

The Deadpool 3 teaser trailer is finally here, and it’s teasing some big Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) connections — including an extended look at the Time Variance Authority (TVA) from Loki on Disney+. So we’ve got some characters tangential to Loki… But will Tom Hiddleston appear in the new movie? Will Loki be in Deadpool 3?

I’ll get this out up front: we know as much as you do because we’ve also only seen the footage that just dropped in the Super Bowl. But there is a non-zero chance the God of Mischief, aka the God of Stories, aka Loktree might pop up in the upcoming film. So, let’s discuss the arguments for — and against.

Here’s Why Loki Might Be In Deadpool 3 aka Deadpool & Wolverine:

The biggest piece of evidence is that Deadpool 3 (which is officially titled Deadpool & Wolverine) deals with the multiverse and the TVA. And — spoilers for the Loki Season 2 finale past this point — Loki is not only essentially located right outside TVA headquarters, but he is quite literally the man holding the entire multiverse together. If Deadpool starts to muck around with the nature of the multiverse with his new pal Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), there’s every chance that Loki might want to step in and do something… Even with Matthew Macfayden’s TVA agent seemingly encouraging Deadpool to go hog-wild.

It’s also possible that Deadpool, who has never shied away from making a meta-joke about something, could point out that it’s sort of goofy that Loki is a tree now, or zip by Loki on his throne while traversing the multiverse. Just look at the trailer, which already has him referencing the MCU, Marvel, and more.

And there’s one last piece of evidence that Tom Hiddleston could return: he already did. Granted, we don’t know the exact production order on these two shows, but after the end of Loki Season 2, Hiddleston later appeared as the voice of Loki in What If…? Season 2. He also not-so-subtly hinted he isn’t done with the character as of yet during the post-Loki press tour.

So given all that, why wouldn’t he want to appear in some sort of cameo in Deadpool 3?

Here’s Why Loki Might Not Be In Deadpool 3 aka Deadpool & Wolverine:

Well, one of the reasons is that despite that What If…? role, Marvel might want to keep one of their most reliable aces in the hole off the table at least for a little while longer. Certainly, with the downturn in fortunes, there may be the temptation to pull out all of the stops for Deadpool 3.

But it seems far more likely that Marvel will want to keep Loki off the board until later. Specifically, until they reach their mega-mash-up with Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars (if those still end up going forward as part of the overall plan). Whether he’s the villain, as we’ve speculated here before; or just the guy who gets pissed when someone else like Kang ends up screwing with the multiverse, we’ll have to see. Loki will return, but this soon? Maybe not. But maybe?

We’ll know more when Deadpool 3 opens in theaters on July 25, 2024.
