This is Comic Book Club News for December 19, 2023.

Multiple Wolverines Teaming Up In Marvel’s Weapon X-Men:

Wolverines! That’s what fans will be shouting next year when writer Christos Gage and artist Yildiray Çinar team up a slew of multiversal Wolverine variants for a new title, Weapon X-Men.

Spinning out of this week’s Original X-Men one-shot, the four-issue miniseries will team up Old Man Logan, Age of Apocalypse Wolverine, Zombie Wolverine, Earth X Wolverine, and newcomer Jane Howlett of Earth-1281 to fight a villain the Phoenix is scared of. Probably a bucket of water, right?

Said writer Gage via press release: “Getting a chance to continue to explore the Marvel Multiverse in the pages of WEAPON X-MEN with the amazing Yildiray Çinar is the perfect Christmas gift! A team of nothing but Wolverines…one of whom, Jane Howlett, has never been seen before? Against a threat from the pages of Original X-Men? With Yildiray Çinar, whose character acting is as brilliant as his action scenes and who has a George Perez-level of skill with crowds? Moving from one alternate Earth to another? Sign me up!”

And thus, the prophecy has been fulfilled, that Marvel will eventually publish nothing but Wolverine and Spider-Man. The first issue hits stores on March 6, 2024.

Stray Dogs Team Reuniting For New Series, Feral:

The Stray Dogs team is going feral in their new title, appropriately named Feral. Written by Tony Fleecs with art by Trish Forstner, while the previous series was pitched as “Lady and the Tramp meets Silence of the Lambs,” this one is “The Walking Dead meets The Aristocats.”

Said Fleecs via press release: “We didn’t want to repeat ourselves with this follow up book so it really was at first, thinking about: Okay, Stray Dogs is dogs trapped in a house. So, let’s have this one be about what’s really frightening in wide open spaces. The antagonist in Stray Dogs is someone who’s evil from the inside out. So, let’s have these cats face something that’s like an infection. An external threat. The stray dogs were forgetful… So these cats remember EVERYTHING.”

The book will follow three cats, Elsie, Lord Fluffy Britches, and Patch, who end up outside the pound when there’s a rabies outbreak. Now they need to find their way home before they get eaten.

The new series hits stores on March 27, 2024.

Scott Snyder And Jamal Igle’s Dudley Datson Heads To Dark Horse:

Scott Snyder and Jamal Igle’s Dudley Datson and the Forever Machine is heading to Dark Horse Comics, after first appearing digitally as a ComiXology Original.

The all-ages series is about the titular Datson, who discovers a conspiracy to take down all the pet companions of great figures in history. As the release says: “But when dastardly foes turn his world upside down, Dudley will have to start facing things beyond his wildest imagination in this modern-day fable.”

This is just the latest of Snyder’s titles with the Amazon publisher to get a double-sized reprint; with two issues per volume, for a three-month run. Others include Barnstormers and the currently running Canary.

Dudley Datson hits stores April 17, 2024.
