Great news, everyone: nothing bad at all happens in Invincible Episode 3, “This Missive, This Machination!” Instead, it’s just an hour of animated family fun, in the grand old tradition.
…at least that’s what the just-posted promo for the next new episode on Prime Video wants you to think. In the quick, 15-second-long tease, we see Debbie Grayson (Sandra Oh) sending Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) off the college. “College is a fresh start!” says a suddenly entirely not depressed Debbie. “And I want you to enjoy every second of it.”
Meanwhile, we see scenes of Mark and his girlfriend Amber (Zazie Beetz) kissing, and Robot/Rudy (Ross Marquand) asking Monster Girl (Grey Delisle) to go out to a movie with him. That’s when the promo teases that Invincible is “the most family-friendly cartoon in the universe,” in the same sort of font you would see on Family Matters and similar sitcoms back in the day. “And don’t do drugs!” says Debbie in the kicker.
So is Episode 3 going to be completely devoid of the blood, guts, and crushing depression that have characterized Season 2 of the hit series so far? Ummm… Probably not. But as usual, the show is having fun with its fanbase, which means that whatever does happen in the episode is going to probably be more harrowing than we can imagine. Will Angstrom Levy (Sterling K. Brown) move up his plans to attack Mark? Perhaps the Sequids will finally make a move from Mars. Or perhaps some… Other character might return? Hmmm. We’ll just have to watch when the new episode drops this Thursday at 8 pm ET to find out.

Invincible Season 2 officially premiered on Prime Video on Thursday, November 2 at 8 pm ET / 5 pm PT. Though Season 2 will be eight episodes long, only one episode will premiere on Thursday, followed by the next three Thursdays. Then there will be a break, and the second half of Invincible Season 2 will premiere sometime in 2024.
