Sure it’s no three-way dance battle, but the first real throwdown between David Haller (Dan Stevens) and Amahl Farouk’s (Navid Negahban) on FX’s Legion was a stand-out moment, and a comic book fans dream.
In case you only tuned in to Season 1 of the show, and missed what went down during “Chapter 10,” first of all: hi, go back and watch the episodes, it’s very good.
Second, you might be wondering what we mean when we say “first battle.” See, in Season 1 we never saw the real Farouk, a.k.a. The Shadow King. Lenny (Aubrey Plaza) was always just a face he wore; and Oliver (Jemaine Clement) a body he was inhabiting. Now, for the first time, David comes face to face with the being who lived in his brain for decades, and their battle is a doozy.
We discussed this quite a bit on Inside Legion, our Legion podcast, but seeing the two wrestle, then swordfight, then tank vs. cloud fight is pretty much straight out of the comics. And as a bonus, most of the effects were practical.

Here’s the official description of the show from FX:
Legion follows the story of “David Haller,” a man who believed he was schizophrenic but discovered he might be the most powerful mutant in the world. With help from a team of specialists, David harnessed his unique abilities and learned he’d been haunted by a malicious parasite. Now, David is all that stands in the way of “Amahl Farouk” from attaining infinite and world-ending power.
