Kill Shakespeare returns!

BOOM! ends Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

This is Comic Book Club News for April 24, 2024.

Kill Shakespeare Returns With Romeo Vs. Juliet:

Kill Shakespeare, Anthony Del Col’s critically acclaimed mash-up of Shakespeare characters, returns on Free Comic Book Day with a teaser for an upcoming graphic novel titled Romeo vs. Juliet: A Kill Shakespeare Adventure.

Said Del Col via press release provided to Comic Book Club: Our new story Romeo Vs. Juliet is a great entry point for everyone—a Shakespearean western in which Juliet Capulet has survived her ordeal with Romeo and has reinvented herself as an independent warrior-for-hire. In order to help protect a small nunnery and border town from her ex-lover, Juliet must reunite with old allies, including Hamlet, Othello, and Puck. And did I mention Juliet’s pregnant? And the father could be either Hamlet… or Romeo? What could be more Shakespearean than that?”

The first act will hit stores on May 4, with the full graphic novel following on November 19, 2024.

Berger Books To Release OGN From Steve Lieber And Mat Johnson:

Steve Lieber, an artist often associated with satirical comics from DC Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen, is teaming with writer Mat Johnson for a new graphic novel from Berger Books titled Backflash.

The book follows a character named Devin who realizes he can access memories of the past by touching family memorabilia. Which, you know, I can do too, but presumably he’s a bit better at it than I am.

Said Johnson via press release: “I’ve been Steve Lieber’s number one fan since reading The Superior Foes of Spider-Man. Not only are his illustrations gorgeous, but their mix of humor and heart are totally unique in the comics landscape. It was a bucket-list dream to team up with Steve, and even more special to do so on such a personal project, inspired as it is by the recent loss of my mom. Having the project benefit from the editing of the legendary Karen Berger made it all even more magical.”

The new book hits stores this November from Berger Books and Dark Horse.

BOOM! Studios Ends Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Universe:

BOOM! Studios is ending the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers universe in the upcoming Darkest Hour one-shot. Written by Melissa Flores with art by Simona Di Gianfelice, the publisher claims this will be the final chapter of the eight-year story they’ve been telling the books.

Said Flores via press release: “After nearly two years, the Darkest Hour comes to a close. This event has been one of the biggest tasks of my career, but I’ve enjoyed every single, heart-wrenching minute. Although I put our poor Rangers through the ringer, I hope the ending is as satisfying for the reader as it was for me to write it!”

The issue will be released on July 31, a week after the final issue of the main series hits on July 24. BOOM! teases that this isn’t really the end, as more announcements are coming in the lead-up to San Diego Comic-Con. So, reboot, anyone? It’s all the rage, particularly with nostalgia properties.
