Invincible has returned to Prime Video, and is wasting no time absolutely murdering some of your favorite characters. That includes — spoilers past this point — Dupli-Kate (Malese Jow), who may not be quite as dead as she looks, and Rex-Splode (Jason Mantzoukas), who is about to be executed. But what about Shrinking Rae (Grey Griffin)? Is Shrinking Rae really dead on Invincible?
Before we get to that, a brief bit of a recap about Invincible Season 2, Episode 5 “This Must Come As A Shock.” In the episode, Rex is leading Kate and Rae on a mission to take down the Lizard League, some second-tier baddies who are about to launch nukes all over the world. And things seem to be going well until the tide turns, thanks to Komodo Dragon (Jay Pharoah).
First, Komodo Dragon destroys all of Dupli-Kate’s duplicates, smashing her final two together and killing her. Then he swallows Shrinking Rae. And both the viewers and Rex-Splode think they know what’s going to happen… Rae will grow large and blow up Komodo Dragon.
That is not what happens. Instead, Komodo Dragon somehow pushes Rae back down inside his super-strong body and seemingly digests her. It’s extremely gross! Later, after biting off Rex-Splode’s hand, his head gets blown up and Komodo Dragon dies. But what about Rae? Is there hope for our favorite glasses-wearing hero?

Is Shrinking Rae Dead On Invincible? What We Know From The Comics:
First and probably most importantly, there is no Shrinking Rae in the Image Comics source material. Instead, there’s Shrinking Ray, who is basically the same character, but a man. The reason I bring this up though is that they’re slightly different characters, so anything could happen on the TV series.
That said, things go down pretty similarly in the comic book to how they do on the TV show. In Invincible #40 from April 2007, while the bulk of the Guardians of the Globe are off-Earth fighting some alien squids called Sequids, Rex-Splode, Dupli-Kate, and Shrinking Ray all battle the Lizard League. And yes, Komodo Dragon kills all of Dupli-Kate’s dupes, and swallows Shrinking Ray, killing him.
That’s it for the character in the comic book, which ran for another 104 issues. So if the show follows the comic books, that’s it for Shrinking Rae, as well, despite the gender-bending. But! Never say never, there have been twists before, and characters have survived way worse fates. Fingers crossed Shrinking Rae lives. And that’s one to grow on.

Invincible Season 2 Part 2 officially premiered on Prime Video on Thursday, March 14 at 3 am ET / 12 am PT. Though Season 2 is eight episodes long, only one episode will premiere on Thursday, followed by the next three Thursdays.
