Marvel Announces New X-Men Titles, Creative Teams:

Only one story today on the podcast, but it’s one we’ve been following here for quite a long time: we finally know what will be coming from Marvel after the X-Men’s Krakoa era is done. As just revealed at SXSW, the three new X-Men titles coming from the line are: X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, and Exceptional X-Men.

The creative teams following the lead of incoming editor Tom Brevoort are as follows… Gail Simone and David Marquez will be handling writing and art respectively on Uncanny X-Men. Jed MacKay is writing the adjectiveless X-Men title, with Ryan Stegman on art. And writer Eve L. Ewing is teaming up with artist Carmen Carnero for Exceptional X-Men.

These three new titles, with more to come, will be picking up after what writer Gerry Duggan told Comic Book Club’s live show will be as definitive a “the end” as you get in ongoing comics. The currently running Krakoa storyline will end with X-Men #35, which is being renumbered as Uncanny X-Men #700. Meanwhile, the new storyline will be teased in both that June debuting issue, as well as with a story by Simone and Marquez in May’s Free Comic Book Day issue.

In adjectiveless X-Men, Cyclops is leading a team including Magik, Beast, Psylocke, Quentin Quire aka Kid Omega, and what looks like Magneto in a Professor X chair, as well as Temper, the character formerly known as Oya. The book will based in Alaska and find Cyclops using cerebra to find and help mutants. The book will hit stores on July 10.

Next up is Uncanny X-Men, we have Wolverine, Rogue, Gambit, Nightcrawler, and Jubilee find themselves as outlaw heroes in New Orleans. Said Simone at SXSW: “I think X-Fans are special in that we identify with having something different about us…and you’re going to feel that in this book, and what it means to have that thing about you that’s different, or exceptional. We go deep into the emotional part of that.” This book will debut on August 7.

And on September 4, Exceptional X-Men premieres which stars Kate Pryde as she heads to Chicago to leave the whole mutant thing behind and become a barista, only to instead become a mentor for three new mutants, Bronze, Axo, and Melee, along with Emma Frost who she doesn’t like very much.

But that’s just the beginning. Other new titles teased for the line include Phoenix, X-Factor, Storm, NYX, X-Force, and Wolverine. So there you go! From the Ashes, here come the X-Men.
