Daniel Warren Johnson’s Extremity heads to Kickstarter.

Wet Moon returns.

Shaolin Cowboy goes silent.

This is Comic Book Club News for March 6, 2024.

Daniel Warren Johnson’s Extremity Heads To Kickstarter:

One of creator Daniel Warren Johnson’s first big books, Extremity, is headed to Kickstarter. Not for a new run on the title, but for a two-volume set titled Extremity: Signature Edition. The first book contains all 12 issues of Johnson’s series collected, while the second volume presents the art of Extremity.

The book is a vengeance story with a twist that you might be able to guess from the title: it involves a gross severed hand.

Said Johnson via press release: “I wanted to prove to the world just how awesome I could make comics with Extremity. It was my first big book that I was writing and drawing, and I put every inch of myself towards making it the best I possibly could. I’m still so proud of it and to see it in this new format has been an absolute joy. These images are honest and raw, with all the white out, messy pencil lines, and not quite perfect ink strokes for the world to take in. What an honor!”

Hey, guess what? The Kickstarter was funded in 27 minutes, and as of this recording has made over $120,000 of its $40,000 goal. Now that’s… Extreme. Ity.

Sophie Campbell’s Wet Moon Returns From Oni Press:

Continuing on new collected editions of classics, Sophie Campbell’s Wet Moon is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a new omnibus edition from Oni Press.

Appropriately titled Wet Moon 20th Anniversary Omnibus Volume 1, the book will collect 384 pages of stories in one volume. The book, if you missed it the first time, is a slice-of-life story set in the Deep South, where the gothic meets goths.

Said Campbell: “I can’t believe it’s been 20 years since I did the first Wet Moon book. I am so old. How I feel about my work on Wet Moon has always been super complicated for me both as a person and an artist, but putting these omnibus editions together feels like maybe it’ll be closure, in a way, emotionally and creatively. I’m tempted to go back and change all sorts of stuff like the CGI additions in the old Star Wars movies but I’m hoping it’ll be cathartic to have it all out there in one place warts and all.”

The book will hit stores on November 26, 2024. Now that’s… Wet moon. Hm, that doesn’t work as well, and the other one barely worked. Alas!

Shaolin Cowboy Gets Silent Edition:

Let’s make it a hat trick of collected editions today, as Dark Horse has announced that Geof Darrow’s Shaolin Cowboy: Cruel To Be Kin is getting an edition subtitled, Silent But Deadly, which will remove all the lettering to focus on Darrow’s art and Dave Stewart’s colors.

The book itself is absolutely wild, with the titular cowboy traversing a post-apocalyptic landscape, fighting giant lizards, and generally showing off Darrow’s hyper-detailed style.

And finally, it won’t have any of that dumb dialogue standing in the way!

The new edition will collect all seven issues, and hit bookstores on September 17, 2024 and comic shops on September 18, 2024.
