Marvel is going big or going home with their new comics for March, 2024. Okay fine, they’re probably not going home. But there are a ton of intriguing titles from the publisher coming out this month.
We’ve got licensed properties like Star Wars and Aliens exploring weird corners of the universe with a Paul Reiser-written book, and one focusing on everyone’s second favorite Fett. We’ve got teases for Spider-Man’s big 2024, and the debut of a Spider-Man team-up book. And if that wasn’t enough, while the mainline X-Men is wrapping up, we’re kicking off Ultimate X-Men from Peach Momoko.
Let’s get into it! Here are our picks for the 11 most anticipated, must-buy books from Marvel for March, 2024.
1. Aliens: What If… #1
Release Date: March 6, 2024
Possibly one of the most bizarre projects Marvel has ever released, this new five-issue long series is written by Paul Reiser and his son Leon (among others) as the elder Reiser revisits his classic villain Carter Burke from Aliens. The “what if” question? What if Carter Burker had lived, something I’m sure Reiser gets asked a lot at Comic-Cons, but I’m not sure anyone else was asking? Anyway, should be weird and interesting.
2. The Spectacular Spider-Men #1
Release Date: March 6, 2024
Greg Weisman has been on a roll revisiting his Gargoyles series for Dynamite. And now, he’s looking to do the same thing over at Marvel, following up on the beloved Spectacular Spider-Man animated series with a team-up book featuring Peter and Miles. Plus: Humberto Ramos on pencils.
3. Weapon X-Men #1
Release Date: March 6, 2024
Listen, I don’t know if we want to be encouraging this kind of behavior, but a team of all Wolverines from different universes? Traveling the multiverse to save other Wolverines from Onslaught, who is probably also a Wolverine? I am merely a man, and the flesh is weak.
4. Ultimate X-Men #1
Release Date: March 6, 2024
Not to editorialize too much in this editorial feature, but this is easily my most anticipated comic book of the month. Peach Momoko using her unique writing and art sensibilities to reinvent the X-Men for Marvel’s new Ultimate Universe? What will this title even be??? Can’t wait to find out.
5. Ms. Marvel: Mutant Menace #1
Release Date: March 6, 2024
Iman Vellani and Sabir Pirzada’s debut on Ms. Marvel was a delightful surprise: the rare instance where the TV people know the character well enough to translate her back into comics. This follow-up miniseries takes Kamala Khan back to New Jersey with artist Scott Godlewski.
6. Black Widow & Hawkeye #1
Release Date: March 13, 2024
60 years of Black Widow and Hawkeye? They don’t look a day over 59. Anyway, this new mini by Stephanie Phillips and Paolo Villanelli does exactly what you’d expect: teams up the duo on a spy mission tying back to their shady pasts.
7. Ghost Rider: Final Vengeance #1
Release Date: March 13, 2024
Speaking of on a roll, Benjamin Percy has been crushing it lately on X-Force and Wolverine, among others, and now he’s giving us a new iteration of Ghost Rider who is a bad guy. Spoiler: it’s The Hood, they already revealed that. Sorry for the spoiler.
8. X-Men: Forever #1
Release Date: March 20, 2024
The title is ironic, see, because this iteration of X-Men is ending in June. Regardless, this is Kieron Gillen and Luca Maresca tying up all the loose ends from Immortal X-Men. And if you’ve been reading that book, you know this is going to go off the wall bonkers.
9. Star Wars: Jango Fett #1
Release Date: March 20, 2024
Possibly the least requested comic since Aliens: What If…?, everyone’s second favorite Fett gets his moment in the spotlight. All snark aside, Ethan Sacks is teaming up with Luke Ross on this one for what should be a solid Star Wars adventure that weaves between the movies and TV shows.
10. Web Of Spider-Man #1
Release Date: March 20, 2024
This is one of them “preview books” where we get little snippets of forthcoming stories from the world of Spider-Man. You’ve got the aftermath of Gang War. A set up of the Spider Society. The return of Chasm and Kaine. A bunch of Goblins. What more do you want?
11. X-Men ’97 #1
Release Date: March 27, 2024
One week after X-Men ’97 premieres on Disney+, Marvel is on it with a comic that promises to bridge the gap between the original X-Men: The Animated Series and the new iteration. So, technically, this should be titled X-Men ’92-’97 but whatever I’m not in charge of editorial for Marvel so who cares?
