We knew that ThunderCats #1 from Dynamite was big, but it looks like you’re going to have to add a dollar sign instead of an “s” at the end there. You know, Thundercat$. While Dynamite previously reported the issue sold 170,000 copies, the number is more like 180,000. And it’s going back for a second printing.
In the issue, which was released last Wednesday (February 7) by Declan Shalvey and Drew Moss, we remet the classic ’80s cartoon characters, revamped for a new era. And clearly, stores and fans responded. Despite what Dynamite calls an “aggressive overprinting to account for reorders,” they revealed that the “sell in number now is over 180,000 copies” and given the issue has sold out at the distributor level (aka, Dynamite) as well as in stores, it’s going back for a second printing, with a riff on the Rob Liefeld cover that helped push the issue over 170k.
While the inside of the book will be the same, the outside features a “peel” effect that shows off Liefeld’s pencils and inks, as well as the covers. And yes, it’ll be the same price as previously released, even though you’re getting fewer colors. What a rip-off! Just kidding.
The final order cutoff for this second printing is February 19, 2024 (aka one week from today). It will hit stands on March 13, 2024, the same day as ThunderCats #2. And Dynamite promises more news on that issue is coming soon…
