Avengers: Twilight #2 Review:

The dystopian Avengers story continues as Captain America — now powered up again — tries, and fails to rally the American people against the forces that are suppressing them.

“I really like Daniel Acuña’s art, it really helps to establish this futuristic nightmare world,” said host Justin Tyler. “We’ve seen dystopian futures like this before, but I like this version of it. I like how we get to really suffer alongside Cap as he tries to figure this out.”

Pete LePage was also impressed by the art, saying, “I agree totally, the art is really impressive with the darker colors here to match this darker future. It’s an iconic look to it.”

Getting into spoilers, while LePage was particularly impressed by a panel of Red Skull in disguise holding Ultron’s decapitated head, Alex Zalben was a little conflicted on that plot point. “I do wonder, not to jump too far ahead, what we’re going to land on in terms of the themes of this book,” Zalben said, “because the idea that Cap is a man once again out of time and not able to connect with people and say, ‘Hey, fight against this fascistic state.’ But everybody’s like, ‘Nah, man, I’m too busy. I don’t care.’ That’s interesting, and something that I don’t think I’ve seen before. The revelation, this issue, that it’s Red Skull and Ultron behind everything means that maybe we’re heading towards classic superhero fisticuffs, which seems to work against that potentially more interesting and complicated premise. A lot of it is going to be the execution over the next couple of issues.”
