Alan Scott: The Green Lantern #4 Review:

In this issue, we’re flashing back in time to find out how the villainous Red Lantern, Alan Scott’s ex-boyfriend, was playing him the whole time. And it is devastating.

“I legitimately thought we were going to have a heartwarming emotional twist to this issue,” said host Alex Zalben. “But instead, Tim Sheridan stabs the knife right into your heart, twisting it around, pulling out your heart, and making you look at it the entire time. Which is to say: fantastic emotional stakes set up in this issue. Cian Tormey is also drawing the heck out of it. There’s a scene late in the issue where –spoilers here — but Alan Scott is on one side of an energy construct, and Red Lantern is on the other side. And he emotionally connects with him. I felt everything over the course of that scene… This book is punching so far above its weight. If you’re not picking it up, what are you doing? Go do that right now.”

Justin Tyler agreed, adding, “To find those emotionally connected moments at a time where the villain is twisting the knife I thought was amazing.”

Tyler also was very into a double entendre halfway through the issue where Red Lantern says that he heard the Russian military sometimes plucked soldiers from the field to turn them into spies. “Next page,” Tyler said, “So I let him pluck me… Perfectly done wordplay, and well done from the visual [direction]…. Really well plotted. And then the last page was absolutely bad**s.”

Pete LePage agreed with everything that was said, and noted, “It’s really impressive, the twists and turns here, playing with our emotions in all the right ways… But it’s also worth it and really creatively awesome.”
