11 Best Graphic Novels For Kids, February 2024

11 Best Graphic Novels For Kids, February 2024

Figuring out what graphic novels to buy for the kid in your life can be tough. The shelves are full of superhero fare that may or may not be appropriate. Some books skew too young, or too old. And overall, without a little help, the comic book store can be a confusing place. This is where this list of 13 best graphic novels for kids being released in February 2024 comes in.

To be clear, you know your kid better than we do. So maybe they love a good zombie book, or won’t be into any/all of the subjects on this list. But between trade collections from Marvel, hit series like Investigators, and a few original properties as well, this list should have a little something for any kid in your life.

Read on for the complete list, as well as release dates and a little about the books, which are all currently available for pre-order online at retailers like Amazon and Barnes & Noble — as well as your local bookstore.

Written and drawn by Rashad Doucet, this new book from Little, Brown, Ink focuses on a kid (based loosely on Doucet) who decides to start an after-school arts club. But if they can’t get funding, they’ll be shut down by the end of the semester. We love a good underdog story here, and this seems like a seriously fun one.

Another blockbuster series from Scholastic, Waverider is the ninth book in the best-selling Amulet series by Kazu Kibuishi. In the latest volume, Emily travels to Typhon, Prince Trellis returns to the Kingdom of the Elves, and things get darker and more dangerous. As of this writing, this is already a bestseller on Amazon, so highly recommend pre-ordering a copy if you have an Amulet fan in your life.

Written and drawn by Brittany Long Olsen, this new book from Oni Press, the unique premise sets the action in a shop that sells happy feelings in jars. When 11-year-old Darcy breaks one of those jars, she ends up working at the shop… And maybe convincing them to sell other feelings as well.

6. Marvel Unleashed

Marvel Unleashed

8. Takio

This new collection of the classic middle-grade superhero series from Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming (the guys behind the not-so-middle-grade Powers) brings together the original graphic novel and all four issues of the sequel series. John Patrick Green’s best-selling Investigators series gets another spinoff with the sequel to Agents of S.U.I.T. This time, the focus is on super-spy badgers Bongo and Marsha, and with co-writer Christopher Hastings teaming up with Green, you know this is going to be laugh-out-loud funny. For kids. Not me, of course, I am very serious.

10. Wombats! Go To Wizards Wharf

wombats! go to wizards wharf

Release Date: February 20, 2024

Hilo Book 10: Rise of the Cat

Probably the most anticipated book on this list in my house, the hit Hilo series from writer/artist Judd Winick returns. And this time, the focus is on Hilo’s cat, Polly, who gets sent to a magical boarding school for bad kids/animals. Magical cat adventures? You can’t say no to that.
