New comics this week? Uh, yes please! Check please! And other frequently stated aphorisms and otherwise, because we’ve got your full list of new comics for January 9 and January 10, 2024 from Marvel, DC Comics, and beyond.
Fro Marvel, we’ve got a giant-size week with Giant-Size Spider-Man #1, kicking off the publisher’s fiftieth anniversary of the superlative. But the bigger Spider-Man title is probably the release of Ultimate Spider-Man #1 from Jonathan Hickman and Marco Chechetto, which kicks off the new Ultimate Universe in earnest. Not to get lost in the shuffle, Rise of the Powers of X #1 flashes forward 10 years to show how the X-Men lost. Oops.
It’s a lighter week for DC Comics, but the big one is Action Comics #1061, which finds Jason Aaron writing Superman for the first time. He’s pitting the Man of Steel against a powered-up Bizarro. Will it not be very bad? That’s Bizarro speak for “will it be very good,” I think, and the answer is: yes, probably.
Some other highlights from the week include Acid Chimp vs. Business Dog from Ahoy Comics, which once again teams Mark Russell and Steve Pugh for a wild-sounding satire. Dynamite extends their Disney Villains line with a new title focusing on Cruella de Vil from writer Sweeney Boo. And fans of Zack Snyder might be interested in Titan’s Rebel Moon: House of the Bloodaxe #1, which serves as an official prequel to the film.
