It’s time for the season finale of Marvel‘s What If…? on Disney+, and the animated series is pulling out all the stops. In fact, pretty much every major character from Season 2 — and beyond — shows up in the episode. But who is who in the What If…? Season 2 Episode 9 cast?
Great question. Before we get to that, picking up off the cliffhanger from Season 2 Episode 8, “What If… Strange Supreme Intervened?” finds Season 1’s corrupted Sorcerer Supreme (Benedict Cumberbatch) recruiting Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell) for a new mission. He’s been pretty busy taking out universe-ending threats, and wants her help with one that escaped. That threat? Kahhori (Devery Jacobs), who we met back in Season 2 Episode 6.
Shocking literally nobody, Strange Supreme has another idea in mind: he’s planning on using all these villains — and heroes like Kahhori — to power his universal forge and recreate his own universe, with his own Christine (Rachel McAdams) back alive. Naturally, Captain Carter and Kahhori can’t let him do that, so they team up to take him down — and fight their way through a bevy of baddies on the way.
Ultimately, they do beat him, but by throwing himself in the forge, Strange recreates his universe, including Christine… Just without him in it. And Captain Carter takes the long way home thanks to The Watcher (Jeffrey Wright), who gives her a glimpse of the Loktree from the end of Loki Season 2.

What If…? Season 2 Episode 9 Cast: Who’s Who In The Cast?
No big surprise here, but the cast from earlier in the season returns. That includes Jeffrey Wright as the voice of The Watcher, as well as Hayley Atwell as Captain Carter, the lynchpin of the whole series. And Devery Jacobs reprises her MCU original role as Kahhori.
Benedict Cumberbatch does indeed voice Strange, who is credited here as Strange Supreme/Demon Strange. Shades of Cumberbatch’s time as Smaug in The Hobbit movies, perhaps?
We also get some of the Season 2 Episode 7 cast back, with Cate Blanchett voicing Hela like she did in Thor: Ragnarok. Meanwhile, Feodor Chin voices Xu Wenwu as he did in that episode, though on screen the part was played by Tony Leung in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Clancy Brown also returns from that episode (and others) as the voice of Surtur.
The big return, though, is Stanley Tucci as the voice of Dr. Erskine, the guy who created the Super Soldier formula that created Captain America and Captain Carter. He’s seen in a sequence where Strange tries to tempt Peggy into joining him, by promising her the version of events that finds Steve Rogers alive and well.
And speaking of which, Chris Evans does not voice Steve Rogers… Instead, it’s voice actor Josh Keaton, as it was in previous episodes.
