Marvel‘s What If…? on Disney+ is usually about relatively familiar riffs on things that happened in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)… Until now, that is. Today’s episode, “What If… Kahhori Reshaped The World?” introduces a brand new character to both the MCU, and the Marvel Comics source material. So with that in mind, you might be wondering who is in the voice cast of What If…? Season 2, Episode 6.
Before we get there, a brief bit of setup. In the episode, Surtur (Clancy Brown) attacks Asgard way earlier than in Thor: Ragnarok. Odin (Anthony Hopkins in the movies) ends up breaking apart the Tesseract, and a piece of it rockets to pre-colonial Earth. There, it enchants a lake near a Haudenosaunee Confederacy community, which leads to their myths of a Sky World.
Enter Kahhori (Devery Jacobs), who ends up discovering the lake while on the run from Conquistadors. She’s shot, falls into the lake, and is taken to Sky World, where she discovers incredible powers thanks to the Tesseract. She can run extremely fast. Jump higher than a regular human. And not only that, she can move objects through the air with her mind, and manipulate and create portals. After all the Tesseract is the Infinity Stone that manipulates space… So anything in physical space, she has power over.
She uses these powers to beat the Conquistadors and free the Sky World people. And not only that, she travels to Spain to confront Queen Isabella, completely upending the power balance of the world. That’s when Doctor Strange shows up (Benedict Cumberbatch), revealing he’s been looking for Kahhori for a long time.
Given the newcomers, not a lot of folks in the episode have appeared in the MCU before. But some of them have, so let’s break down where you might know the voice cast from.
What If…? Season 2 Episode 6 Cast: Who’s Who In The Cast?
On the MCU bent, Benedict Cumberbatch does, in fact, play the role of Doctor Strange on What If…? as he has in previous episodes. This Strange is the one known as Strange Supreme, aka the Doctor Strange who ingested a bevy of demonic entities in order to bring Christine (Rachel McAdams) back to life when she died in the car crash that took regular-style Doctor Strange’s hands away from him. However, important (maybe) to note: this is not the bad guy Strange from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It’s just another one.
Clancy Brown also reprises his role as Surtur from Thor: Ragnarok. And in terms of recognizable voices from the MCU, Jeffrey Wright of course appears as The Watcher. However, Odin is not voiced by Anthony Hopkins. Instead, he’s played by veteran voice actor Jeff Bergman, who is probably best known for replacing Mel Blanc as the voice of Bugs Bunny. That’s what’s known as “range.”
But beyond that, it’s newbies to the MCU all the way done. The big new one is Devery Jacobs as the voice of Kahhori. She’s been in a ton of roles but is probably best known for playing Elora Danan on the critically acclaimed Reservation Dogs. She’ll also make her live-action MCU debut as Bonnie in next month’s Echo.
Kiawentiio, who voices Wahta, is probably best known for Anne with an E on Netflix. But she’ll be even bigger next year when she debuts as Katara in the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Jeremy White plays the voice of Atahraks, the main guy from Sky World in the episode. He’s not to be confused with Jeremy Allen White from The Bear, and instead hosts some radio shows and a YouTube show.
Other cast members include Gabriel Romero as Conquistador Gonzolo, who I believe played the first openly gay character on a Spanish-language program for Telemundo’s Los Beltrán. And Carolina Ravassa, who voices Queen Isabella of Spain, is a veteran voice actress who is best known as Sombra from the Overwatch games and as Carolina Grant-Gomez in Hamster & Gretel.
