Marvel‘s What If…? is back on Disney+ for Season 2. And with the new episodes of the series comes a mix of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) actors, and — no shade — professional voice actors, as well. With that in mind, you might be wondering who’s who in the What If…? Season 2, Episode 1 cast, from Howard the Duck to Yon-Rogg.
Good news, we’ve got you covered. In the Season 2 premiere, “What If… Nebula Joined the Nova Corps?” we get to see what would have happened if Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) had killed Thanos (Josh Brolin) in Guardians of the Galaxy. Turns out Nebula (Karen Gillan) would have joined the Nova Corps on Xandar. And Then Xandar would have locked down the planet in order to prevent Ronan from invading. And then the planet would have turned into Blade Runner.
It’s… A little convoluted, but it does lead to characters like Korg (Taika Waititi) and Groot (Vin Diesel) working for Howard the Duck (Seth Green), somehow. But that also raises the question: do all these stars of the silver screen reprise their voices for the What If…? Season 2 premiere?
What If…? Season 2 Episode 1 Cast: Who’s Who In The Cast?
The good news here if you’re a fan of the theatrical movies, is most of the cast is exactly who you see on screen. Beyond Jeffrey Wright reprising his role as The Watcher from Season 1 of What If…?, Karen Gillan does indeed voice Nebula after portraying her in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies and TV special, as well as Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.
Also from the Guardians of the Galaxy series, Michael Rooker briefly plays Yondu Udonta. And Peter Serafinowicz once again portrays Garthan Saal, a character he played in the first Guardians of the Galaxy (he’s the guy who says “what a bunch of a-holes.”)
Making their way over from other movies, Taika Waititi once again plays Korg, previously voicing the character in Thor: Ragnarok, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Avengers: Endgame. And most notably, Jude Law is Yon-Rogg, after playing the villain back in Captain Marvel.
There are a couple of voices who have new folks behind them, though. Julianne Grossman takes over the voice of Nova Prime/Irani Rael from Glenn Close, who played the character in Guardians of the Galaxy. And Fred Tatasciore does the voice of Groot, which is honestly for the best given recent allegations against Vin Diesel.
