It may be the last month of the year, but we’ve still got plenty of new comics this week for December 6, 2023, and December 5 (if you’re DC).
From Marvel Comics, the big new ones are Thunderbolts #1 and The Sentry #1, which find new riffs on the tried and true properties. In the former, Bucky leads a new team to take out the biggest threats to the Marvel Universe, starting with The Red Skull. In the latter, The Sentry is dead, so a bunch of random (?) people get his powers.
Over at DC, I personally could not be more excited for Batman / Santa Claus: Silent Knight, a four-week event that teams up the Dark Knight with Jolly Old Saint Nick for a classic Gotham City mystery. There’s also an expansion of the Beast World event, which started strong last week. Let’s hope that continues into Week 2.
Looking at other publishers, we were big fans of Image Comics’ Our Bones Dust #1 in our advance review of the title, a surprising sci-fi title that feels like Mad Max meets The Arrival. Oni Press has an absolutely bloody hit on its hands with Cullen Bunn’s Invasive #1, which should speak to fans of horror like the Saw movies. And Matt Kindt knocked it out of the park with the first issue of Subgenre, and who knows what will happen in issue #2.
