Marvel’s Blood Hunt Heads To Free Comic Book Day:
No, your calendar isn’t wrong, it’s still November. However, Marvel is getting an early start on May by announcing they’ll be kicking off their next big event, Blood Hunt, at next May’s Free Comic Book Day.
As reported by PopVerse, the vampire-centric event will likely get a special issue on the May 4 event, written by Zeb Wells. Said Wells: “Essentially the world has been caught by surprise by vampires and shadowy creatures. [‘Blood Hunt’] is an ambush on the entire planet. There is tone of desperation. Desperation I think would be the largest theme there, but the superheroes are going to rally. They’re going to fight the good fight, no matter how dark the skies are, no matter how bleak the odds are.”
Presumably, the original intention of Blood Hunt was to tee up Marvel Studios’ Blade movie. However, now that the flick has been pushed to 2025, and possibly beyond — or killed entirely — Marvel Comics fans will have to settle for a hopefully fun story about vampires fighting superheroes unconnected to theatrical films in any way. What a bummer.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Honored With Manhole Covers:
Dover, New Hampshire has honored the original home of Mirage Studios by installing two commemorative manhole covers featuring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in their streets.
The events dedicating the manholes, held on November 8 and attended by Dover Mayor Robert Carrier and TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman, are the end of a long journey for this manhole idea. According to The Beat, It actually started in Northampton, New Hampshire, where the local politicians balked at the idea of spending $20,000 on manhole covers… Money that would have been taken from the city’s COVID relief fund.
Luckily, Dover had no such compunctions. To be clear, we have no idea where they go the funds for their manholes from. But they did, and now if you visit Dover you can see some manhole covers with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on them. A cursory search shows there are also at least six pizza place in the area, if you want to grab a slice and look at some manhole covers. That’s a normal thing to do, right? Should we move on to the next story? Yes, let’s.
Tom King And Bilquis Evely Reuniting For New Title:
Tom King and Bilquis Evely, the team behind Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, are reuniting for a new Dark Horse title. Titled Helen of Wyndhorn, the book will also bring in colorist Matheus Lopes and letterer Clayton Cowles, who also worked on the prior book.
According to ComicBook.com, the book is a mashup of Conan the Barbarian and The Wizard of Oz. It follows a woman named Helen Cole who discovers her father, an author, may have not been writing fictional pulp stories once she inherits his house.
The six issue series will hit comic book stores on March 13, 2024.
