New comics this week? New comics every week, I say. Because there are. And despite this upcoming slate of books for October 31, 2023, and November 1, 2023, being what’s called a “fifth week” — aka a lighter week — there are still a ton of big books coming out.
Marvel in particular is coming out swinging. There’s Ultimate Universe #1, Jonathan Hickman and Stefano Caselli’s official kick-off to the new Marvel Ultimate Universe. There’s Spider-Boy #1 from Dan Slott, which has been selling out books left and right. But perhaps the biggest of all (no joke) is It’s Jeff: The Jeff-Verse #1, a collection of digital comics that is — shocker — actually getting new customers into comic book shops.
Over at DC Comics, it’s Specials Week! Which is not an actual designation. But between the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Special #1, Supergirl Special #1, The Return of Superman 30th Anniversary Special #1… Well, that’s pretty special, if you ask me.
What else, what else is in the news… Dark Horse has a new Stranger Things series from the team behind the excellent Kamchatka, Stranger Things: The Voyage #1. And Oni Press has the absolutely bizarre-sounding Faceless and the Family #1. Plus so many other comics are coming out! But not as many as usual.
