It’s yet another edition of new comics this week, the one and only column on the internet that lists the comics coming out from Marvel, DC Comics, and Image Comics. Just kidding, there are lots of them. But this one is the only one that I wrote, so that makes it special and unique. Anyway, let’s break down some of the big comics for October 18, 2023 — and October 17, 2023, if you’re nasty/DC Comics.
The biggest, wildest comic out this week does indeed come from Detective Comics. Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong #1 pits DC’s biggest heroes versus the Monsterverse’s twin Titans. Who will win this confluence of corporate synergy? I say: let them fight. Trademark copyright me, I said that first.
Over at Marvel, things are getting spooky with Spine-Tingling Spider-Man #1, which presumably has the web-slinger’s spider-sense coming out of his back instead of his head. Scary! There’s also Crypt of Shadows #1, an oversized horror collection. And more seriously, it will be interesting to see how things roll out in Daredevil #2 after this past week’s antisemitism controversy.
Other highlights include Archie Comics’s Fear The Funhouse Presents… Toybox Of Terror #1, which features parodies of Chucky, M3GAN, and more. IDW’s Beneath The Trees Where Nobody Sees #1, which our advance review described as “Precious Moments meets Saw.” And Hack/Slash: Back To School #1, which is Zoe Thorogood on art and writing so you gotta pick that up, too.
