Predator vs. Wolverine Tops Comic Book Charts:

The top-selling comic books of September have been revealed. And like peanut butter and chocolate before them, The Predator and Wolverine are two great tastes that work great together.

The Marvel comic took top of the charts in both units sold, and dollars spent on ICv2‘s just-released list for the month. As a cautionary note, these sales numbers are based on a non-random sampling of 125 of the 3,000 stores worldwide using ComicHub, and selling American comics. So while it might not be totally accurate, it is a good representation of general interest.

Speaking of which, seems like comic book readers were mostly interested in Marvel and DC Comics this month — and Spider-Man and Batman in particular. Of the rest of the Top 10 units sold, Batman #137 came in at number two, Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham #1 at number four, and Batman And Robin #1 at number seven. Two issues of Amazing Spider-Man also made the top ten, coming in at number three and number ten. And perhaps of note, number nine was Uncanny Spider-Man #1, which is technically an X-Men book.

As for other publishers, you have to scan all the way down to number 28 to find Saga #66, and number forty-three to find Something is Killing the Children #33. Otherwise, it’s all Marvel and DC. Whoever wins? We lose.

Transformers Sells Out, To Get Second Printing:

Transform and… Sell out? If you’re looking for a likely suspect to top the October sales charts, look no further than Image Comics and Skybound’s Transformers #1. Earlier reports noted that the first issue of Daniel Warren Johnson‘s series had already sold over 150,000 copies to comic book stores. And now, Image has announced that the issue has sold out at the distributor level.

Now, before fans start to freak out they won’t be able to pick up the issue at comic book stores this week, worry not. What this means is that the amount of copies printed by Image have all been bought by comic book stores. Meaning stores should have more than enough copies in stock to feed your need for robot speed.

That said if you do happen to miss out on the issue, Image has also announced it will get a second printing, with five new covers. The new printing with art by Jason Howard, Greg Tocchini, and more will hit stores on November 1.

Telgemeier, Clowes, More Win CxC Awards:

Raina Telgemeier, Daniel Clowes, and more have won CxC Awards for their work in comics. As reported by The Beat, Cartoon Crossroads Columbus in Ohio gave out their annual awards this past weekend to Raina Telgemeier, Daniel Clowes, Evan Salazar, and Calvin Reid.

Telgemeier was given the Transformative Work Award for her best-selling, autobiographical graphic novels. Daniel Clowes nabbed the Master Cartoonist Award. And we’ll just note that without attending the awards, these both seem accurate so far.

However, you may not have heard of Evan Salazar, who was granted the Newly Emerging Talent Award for his comic Rodeo. And Calvin Reid, former editor at Publisher’s Weekly, was given the Tom Spurgeon Award honoring journalists in the field of graphic arts.

Congrats to all the winners!

For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. And I would love to transform and sell out.
