The second half of Fear the Walking Dead‘s fourth season won’t return to AMC until August 12, but attendees at San Diego Comic-Con got a glimpse of what’s the come at today’s big panel. And now, you can too, courtesy the Fear the Walking Dead Season 4B trailer that just debuted online! And unfortunately, it comes at a heavy price: the death of longtime series star, Kim Dickens’ Madison Clark.
In case you missed the controversial axing at the end of the first half of Season 4, Madison went out defending her kids in their stadium safehouse. That means in the second half of the season, it’s a whole new ballgame. Madison’s daughter Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) is taking charge, along with recent The Walking Dead defector Morgan (Lennie James). Strand (Colman Domingo) and Luciana (Danay Garcia) round out the surviving longtime cast. And for the “new to Season 4” characters: Maggie Grace continues on as journalist Alethea; Garrett Dillahunt as soulful cowboy John; and Jenna Elfman as June/Naomi/Laura, depending on who you ask.
The second half of the year sends the whole franchise into unknown territory. Rumors are swirling that Andrew Lincoln’s Rick is exiting the mothership before 2018 is over. And Lauren Cohan has been cast on an ABC show, which means Maggie’s time is ticking down, too. With longtime Walking Dead showrunner Scott M. Gimple moving up to oversee the whole franchise, will we see a crossover between Fear and Walking Dead? There were a series of scenes that kicked off Season 4, leading to Morgan joining the group… But with the timelines now aligned, a true crossover could happen.
And on the Fear beat, what is the show without Madison, not to mention her son Nick, played by Frank Dillane, who also exited in the first half of the season? The show has always been focused on family, versus the found family of Walking Dead. With Alicia as the only surviving member, will Fear turn into Walking Dead Too? Or will it become something vastly different?
Turns out, a little bit: the show is adding Aaron Stanford (12 Monkeys), Stephen Henderson (Lady Bird) and Mo Collins (MAD TV) in the second half of the season. So things are just getting started.
