The ‘Riverdale’ “Chapter Thirty-Three: Shadow Of A Doubt” Trailer Teases Dark Times For Betty

Riverdale - "Chapter Thirty-Three: Shadow Of A Doubt"

After the epic events in this week’s episode of Riverdale, we may know the identity of The Black Hood… Or do we? From this trailer for “Chapter Thirty-Three: Shadow Of A Doubt,” it looks like whatever the truth is, Betty (Lili Reinhart) is about to be put through the ringer.

Spoilers for Season 2 past this point, but The Black Hood is back! And it certainly seems like Betty had finally figured out his real identity*: Hal Cooper (Lochlyn Munro), her father.

(*Sorry for shooting you to death, janitor Svenson!)

An anxious glance between the two over dinner in the promo seems to confirm Betty is on the case. But she’s also breaking down, sobbing to her friends and pulling out her gun. Is she trapped in a cycle of behavior by The Black Hood? Or can she get back to being the goody-good investigator Riverdale needs?

Oh, also Fred (Luke Perry) is maybe going to be killed by The Black Hood, so that’s pretty bad. My main question at this point is: why is Fred a target? He’s arguably the nicest guy in Riverdale. I sort of get killing a child molester like Mrs. Grundy, or even causing Svenson to off himself. But Fred? Fred Andrews? The man who seems to be a magical flannel shirt brought to life?

I know we’d get a certain sense of symmetry going on if Archie (KJ Apa) is able to save his father’s life by the end of the season. But at the same time, targeting Fred is like going after a puppy for pooping on the rug. Sure you get pissed off, but you don’t have to terrorize and entire town over it.
