FX and Marvel’s Legion is an incredible show, with some super deep things to say about humanity, the human psyche, and the way we interact with other people. But who cares, when everyone has such great outfits?
Take, for example, the Shadow King.
In “Chapter 10,” we finally got to see all three aspects of The Shadow King in action (except the Devil With The Yellow Eyes, I guess [and the World’s Angriest Boy in the World {and Benny*}]) for the first time. The biggest intro (though we had briefly glimpsed him before) was the real Shadow King, Amahl Farouk (Navid Negahban), who had a killer battle scene with David Haller (Dan Stevens).
(*The premise of this piece is flawed, I get that.)
But we also got to see Oliver (Jemaine Clement), the current host for the parasitic mutant; and Lenny (Aubrey Plaza), who isn’t the main aspect of Farouk anymore, but in fact her own entity looking for some sense of purpose (and escape).
Also they were wearing three different outfits, so let’s take a look at them and rank them because why not?
3. Lenny
Look, Aubrey Plaza can look great in anything; but as far as outfits go, she’s purposefully thrown in baggy overalls and a loose fitting shirt depicting her fall back to the junkie Lenny we met in Season 1. Or did we ever really meet this Lenny? We know she died embedded in a wall after David released his full powers. But most of the time when we, the audience saw her, she was a memory — and a false one, at that. Anyway, of the three she’s on the bottom in this scene.
2. Farouk
That Amahl Farouk is one natty dude. Well tailored and clearly in control, he’s not the messy Devil With The Yellow Eyes we saw in Season 1, he’s something else entirely. But he doesn’t look as good as…
1. Oliver Bird
Well, hello there Oliver looking like he’s walked right out of a catalogue. You can fly my conchords anytime, if ya know what I mean.
Here’s the official description of the show from FX:
Legion follows the story of “David Haller,” a man who believed he was schizophrenic but discovered he might be the most powerful mutant in the world. With help from a team of specialists, David harnessed his unique abilities and learned he’d been haunted by a malicious parasite. Now, David is all that stands in the way of “Amahl Farouk” from attaining infinite and world-ending power.
