Thor
Thor is the god of thunder from Norse mythology. But in 1962’s Journey into Mystery #83, Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, and Jack Kirby turned him into a superhero. Originally, he was stuck in the body of human doctor Donald Blake. He only became a god when Blake struck his cane, transforming it into the hammer Mjolnir. Over time, though, Thor because his own, distinct character with a cast of gods and humans around him.
Not only that, but he joined The Avengers, Marvel Comics’ premiere superhero team, and has been a mainstay of the title for decades.
More recently, as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there have been four feature films focusing on the character, played by Chris Hemsworth.
