This is Comic Book Club News for May 16, 2024.
Sesame Street Comic Book Coming From Oni Press:
Can you tell me how to read Sesame Street? Awkward intros aside, Oni Press is collaborating with Sesame Workshop for a brand-new four-issue comic book series based on the iconic children’s show.
The first issue will feature a Grover story from writer Joey Esposito and Austin Baechle, titled Grover Lends a Hand. In it, Grover has to help solve his friends’ problems, and learns a lesson about working together.
The subsequent issues will be written by Stephanie Williams and Mary Kenney, with art by Beth Hughes, Michela Cacciatore, Sean Dove, and Alison Action.
You can pick up the first issue in stores everywhere on August 28. That’s A, U, G–
IDW To Publish Star Trek #500:
Star Trek is all about legacy, so it makes sense that IDW would get into the legacy numbering game for their tie-in comic books. And in fact, in a weird coincidence that surely could not have been planned by that intro, they’re celebrating the 500th issue of Star Trek comics published this September with Star Trek #500.
In addition to a story previewing the next big Star Trek comic event coming in 2025 from Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, and Christopher Cantwell, it will also feature a story by Minor Threats creators Patton Oswalt and Jordan Blum, a story by Mags Visaggio, and more.
The issue beams into stores on September 4, 2024, just before this year’s Star Trek Day.
Marvel Celebrates Iron Fist’s 50th Anniversary:
As we all know 50 years is the Iron Fist anniversary. No, scratch that. Iron Fist is celebrating his 50th anniversary this year, so Marvel is releasing a one-shot special in August.
The issue will feature Chris Claremont returning to Iron Fist to team him up with Wolverine, along with artist Lan Medina. Alyssa Wong will bring the latest chapter in Lin Lie’s saga as the new Iron Fist. Justina Ireland and Elena Casagrande team Danny Rand up with the Daughters of the Dragon. Frank Tieri and Ty Templeton bring on Heroes for Hire. And Jason Loo, recently announced as the writer for Marvel’s Dazzler miniseries but I wanted to talk about this announcement instead, teases the future of Danny Rand.
The issue hits stores on August 14, 2024, about a month before Star Trek Day.
