Marvel Transforms X-Mansion Into Graymalkin Prison In Upcoming Comics

Professor X

Marvel dropped a surprising nugget of info in a press release sent over ostensibly about Gail Simone and David Marquez’s upcoming run on Uncanny X-Men. In it, the publisher revealed that after the Krakoa era is over, the X-Men‘s Westchester mansion is going to be transformed into something called “Graymalkin Prison.” Yikes!

Specifically, here’s the teaser text in the press release provided to Comic Book Club:

“With Professor X gone and his school transformed into a nightmare reflection of itself called Graymalkin Prison, the series sees Rogue step up to be the pillar of Xavier’s dream alongside Wolverine, Gambit, Nightcrawler, and Jubilee. From their new base of operations in New Orleans, the Uncanny X-Men are back to being the outlaw heroes the world hates and fears—and the light in the darkness for mutants everywhere! Mutantkind made a big statement with Krakoa, and now, life is harder for them than ever before, but Rogue’s X-Men will be there to welcome mutants to their new found family.

A core group of essential X-Men rise From the Ashes to face a world without a home – and without Professor X! All bonds among the mutant community seem to be slipping away, and Rogue reluctantly finds herself as the hero designated to bring them back together…but a fearless, malignant power is out there hunting mutants, and it has a terrible secret that may destroy what remains of the X-Men.”

Though we may be putting this puzzle together incorrectly the reveal does seem to tie together some of the pieces of info we already know. Specifically, we know that the X-Men will have a brand-new status quo after the upcoming X-Men #35 (which is legacy-numbered as Uncanny X-Men #700). We also know that there is a character who seems to be held prisoner in something that looks like Cerebro. And as of this past week’s issues of X-Men Forever and Rise of the Powers of X, Professor Xavier certainly seems to be pulling out all the stops to betray humanity — and his X-Men — in order to reach a detente with the machine intelligence threatening all of history.

So, stands to reason that Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters is going to be transformed into one massive prison for Xavier after the crimes he committed during the currently running comic books.

We’ll find out more as we head towards the conclusion of Krakoa — and the beginning of the “From the Ashes” era — this July.
