ThunderCats has been an enormous hit for Dynamite, so it was only a matter of time before they expanded the line. And that time has come, as Cheetara is getting her own solo series from writer/artist Soo Lee, and artist Domenico Carbone.
While the currently running ThunderCats series from Declan Shalvey and Drew Moss takes place with the titular cat people just landed on Third Earth after the destruction of their homeworld, Thundera, the new ThunderCats: Cheetara title will jump back in time. A Younger Cheetara is stuck in a world of Thunderian nobility and is having visions of both the ancient past and the future.
“There are some very cool things about Cheetara that have been overlooked in the original cartoon, things that I really want to make the center of her story,” said Soo Lee via press release provided to Comic Book Club. “She’s also iconic and very strong, it makes sense she gets her own series. It’s a look into one of the most important supporting characters.”
Dynamite notes that not only has Lee been collaborating with Shalvey on making sure the two series align, but she’s also been looking back to the original series and “fandom resources” to help flesh out the title. If you’ve ever read Lee’s Maleficent series from Dynamite (and if you haven’t rectify that immediately), she’s definitely a writer who knows how to weave her way through some tricky continuity.
The new series will launch this July with a cover by Lee, as well as variants by Sozomaika, Lesley “Leirix” Li, Rebeca Puebla, and Edwin Galmon. You can check them out below:
