It’s Superman’s birthday, and you know what that means: it’s time for a ton of info on James Gunn’s upcoming feature film. And not only did we get a first look and the news that principal photography has already begun, but the title has changed. The movie is no longer titled Superman: Legacy. It’s now titled Superman.
Gunn dropped the news on Threads, stating, “Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday (!)”
Continued Gunn, “When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025. Happy Birthday, Clark!”
Along with all of this news, he offered a close-up at David Corenswet’s new Superman suit. While it’s textured like Henry Cavill’s suit from Man of Steel, the “S” seems to be a traditionally yellow, red, and blue colored version of the logo from the classic comic book Kingdom Come.

While initial reports targeted Superman as filming in mid-March, it looks like production has kicked off earlier than anticipated… Possibly in Norway, as rumored. Given the snow, is this Superman at the Fortress of Solitude? We’ll know more when the movie debuts in theaters on July 11, 2025.
Superman Legacy is written and directed by James Gunn. It stars David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Tesmacher, Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason/Metamorpho, Isabel Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer.
